Mine Reclamation
With Varsity, we assist mining clients with proactively managing mined areas with the aim of working with federal, state, and local regulations to return the site back to a safe, natural state.
Leave a safe, natural landscape behind. Varsity, Inc. is the professional property care provider your organization needs to return a former mine site to a natural state.
Mining and related activity can do significant damage to the landscape, wildlife, native trees and plants, and local water systems. In many parts of the country, mining efforts are combined with proactive measures to protect the environment.
At Varsity, we assist mining clients with proactively managing mined areas with the aim of working with federal, state, and local regulations to return the site back to a safe, natural state. Our goal is to develop a site rehabilitation plan that approaches reclamation proactively, even when other parts of the area are being mined. In fact, many of our mine site reclamation projects are completed continuously and progressively throughout the life of the mine.
One of the most cost-effective ways to plant grass and cover barren ground is through hydroseeding. We use specialized equipment to broadcast seed and fertilizer across wide areas, including steep inclines and ground that is difficult to reach by foot. This can grow grass in as little as a week, replacing bare ground with healthy green grass.
One of the wonderful things about nature is its ability to heal itself. Some reclamation efforts include natural, passive means of reclamation, allowing flora and fauna to repopulate the site on their own. Our methods of ground and soil preparation can not only speed up this process, but also make it easier and more likely for the wildlife to return.
Mining may change the ground—in some cases permanently. When the natural contours of the ground have been changed and native soil, plants, and rock have been removed, the way the ground handles rainwater runoff is also changed. Depending on the severity of this, we use traditional erosion control methods to solve this issue either temporarily or permanently.
Your reclamation project has to be done the right way. Varsity, Inc. understands the regulations and best practices involving this critical and necessary process.
